About Sumner – Restaurants, Cafés and Bars

Sumner is Christchurch’s own seaside resort – a village only a 15 minute drive from the central city but with its own laid back character.  Historically a favourite place for Christchurch residents to visit at the weekends to enjoy walking or mountain biking in the Port Hills surrounding Sumner or beach life including surfing.  Sumner is full of unusual clothes shops, delicatessens, restaurants and cafés and even has its own little cinema. Depending on how energetic you are feeling you could stroll along the promenade, onto the sand and along to Shag Rock which marks the end of Sumner Beach or jump straight in and join the locals surfing.  A short hop through the tunnel takes you to the funky village of Lyttelton for a different slice of Kiwi life.

Our apartment has survived the Christchurch earthquakes in tact and is operational to provide luxury accommodation in Sumner.  Sumner like Christchurch in general is an ever changing canvas courtesy of mother nature.  For the people who have elected to be part of the rebuild of Christchurch it is an exciting time to watch how our community and environment is developing.  As a Christchurch short term let our Sumner Apartment provides a spacious, comfortables haven for Christchurch dwellers forced temporarily from their homes as the Christchurch rebuild progresses.

Sumner has always been well known for the variety of places to eat ranging from takeways, delicatessens, coffee shops, cafés right through to fine dining establishments.  At the time of writing there is still a wide selection of all of these places although as Sumner is recreated the format is forever changing.
